We’re in that in-between season—summer’s still hanging on, but you can already feel the shift. August has that new year energy—a sense of reset and rhythm, especially if your summer was filled with vacations, late nights, and looser routines.
It’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and realign before the busyness of fall kicks in.
One of my favorite tools for this kind of check-in is the Wellness Wheel—something I use with clients and in my own life when things feel a little off balance.
🛞 What’s the Wellness Wheel?
Imagine a bike wheel—each spoke represents an area of your well-being. When everything is strong and supported, the ride feels smooth and steady. But when one area is wobbly, it can throw off your momentum or even cause you to spin in circles.
The Wellness Wheel gives you a bird’s-eye view of your health—not just your nutrition and exercise, but also your sleep, stress, relationships, purpose, and more.
🧭 August Check-In: How’s Your Wheel Turning?
Rate each of the following areas from 1 (struggling) to 5 (thriving):
- 🍎 Nutrition
- 🏃 Physical Activity
- 😴 Sleep
- 💆 Stress Management
- 🧑🤝🧑 Social & Family Life
- 🙏 Spiritual or Emotional Well-being
- 💼 Work or Sense of Purpose
- 🏡 Environment (home, finances, clutter, etc.)
Then ask yourself:
👉 Where is my wheel wobbling?
👉 What’s one area that’s slowing me down or making the ride feel rougher than it needs to be?
💬 My Own Tune-Up
Personally, I’ve noticed my nutrition spoke has been a little shaky. My weight crept up more than I’d like—not terrible, but enough to make me stop and check my habits. I’m giving myself grace, but I’m also being honest. I’ve been watching my intake more intentionally—not in a restrictive way, but aiming for a slight deficit that still fuels my body and mind.
And when it comes to movement? It’s time to shift gears. I’m setting the intention to get back to spin class more regularly, finally try Beast Mode at the Y (stay tuned!), and return to swimming, which I’ve missed these last few weeks. This isn’t about being perfect—it’s about getting back in alignment and finding momentum again.

Before September rolls in with its full schedules and back-to-school energy, take a moment to look at your own wheel. What area is calling for your attention?

- Add a veggie to one meal a day.
- Go for a walk after dinner.
- Shut your screens down 30 minutes earlier.
- Text a friend and set a coffee date.
Remember: You don’t have to fix everything at once. A small shift can steady your wheel—and change the whole feel of the ride.
